Clinical Breast Exams

The Captial Breast Cancer Center can schedule women who are eligible for a clincal breast exam (CBE) at one of its clinical partners, MedStar Georgetown University Hospital or MedStar Washington Hospital Center, or at a location convenient for you.

A clinical breast exam is a physical examination of the breast by a healthcare professional.  This exam helps to identify any lumps or abnormalities in the breast and may find other breast problems that need treatment.

Before your CBE, inform your clinician about:

  • Any changes or lumps in your breast. This includes any change in the nipple, such as discharge.
  • Pain in your breast, especially if the pain is not related to your menstrual cycle.
  • Possibility of pregnancy
  • Breastfeeding
  • Breast implants
  • Hormone replacement therapy
  • Previous breast biopsy
  • Menopausal status
